The Supersonic Jet is Back Quiet Supersonic X-plane to Be Designed

The return of supersonic passenger travel is one step closer to reality with NASA's award of a contract for the preliminary design of a low boom flight demonstrator aircraft. This is the first in a series of X-planes in NASA's New Aviation Horizons initiative, introduced in the agency’s Fiscal Year 2017 budget.

NASA, Virgin Air and other's areDeveloping their own. The Sound Barrier was broken for the first time in 1947. But Supersonic Travel wouldn't become viable till ...the concorde. It Debute's in the 1960's.

It could travel at twice the speed of sound 1.345 MPH. But Supersonic jets released pollutants that could damage the ozone layer. And the noise from sonic booms caused it to be banned in the US.

Last year NASA unveiled their plan for the quesst. It's supposedto be 1.000 times quieter than the concorde. Also, Virgin Airlines is developing a 55 seat jet that can reach 1.687 MPH.

To London in just over 2 hours. They want to sell tickets for the same price as a normal airline ticket. Japan airlines has already pre-ordered 20 of the jets.
